Home Minister Amit Shah pushes Odisha government to prioritize implementation of new criminal laws

NEW DELHI : Emphasising the cruciality of next decade for the development of Odisha as it targets faster industrial and technological growth, home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday asked the state govt to ensure a conducive law and order environment by prioritising 100% implementation of the new criminal laws over the next six months.
Chairing a review meeting here on the implementation of three new criminal laws in Odisha, in the presence of chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Shah took stock of the status of rollout of the new provisions of BNS, BNSS and BSA with respect to the police, prisons, courts, prosecution, and forensics.
Shah said that considering the state’s future industrial and technological growth, the three new criminal laws will play a vital role in strengthening law and order.
The home minister asked the Odisha chief secretary and DGP to review the progress of implementation of new criminal laws on a weekly and fornightly basis respectively. He also sought a monthly review by the chief minister, prioritising the timelines of implementation
Wednesday’s review by Shah was attended by the Union home secretary, Odisha chief secretary and DGP and the chiefs of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) and the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
