Amit Shah asks security agencies to work in ‘mission mode’ to make J&K terror-free

SRINAGAR: Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday reiterated govt’s “zero tolerance policy against terrorism”, and directed security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir to continue their coordinated efforts to wipe out terrorism.
Chairing a security review meeting in Srinagar, Shah asked all agencies to “continue to work in a coordinated manner so that the gains made after the abrogation of Article 370 in the UT can be sustained and the goal of a ‘terror-free J&K’ can be achieved at the earliest”. Govt is providing all resources necessary to achieve this goal, he said, and added that the implementation of ‘area domination plan’ and ‘zero terror plan’ “must be ensured in mission mode”.
The meeting was attended by LG Manoj Sinha, Union home secretary, IB director, chief of Army’s Northern Command, J&K’s chief secretary and DGP, heads of Central Armed Police Forces and other senior officials.
The Union minister asserted that govt is “committed to establishing lasting peace in J&K and completely eliminating terrorism”, and lauded the security forces for a significant reduction in terror-related incidents, infiltration and recruitment of youths in terrorist organisations. “Due to the sustained and coordinated efforts of the Narendra Modi govt, the entire terror eco-system nurtured by elements inimical to our country in J&K has been crippled,” he said.
Shah also chaired a review meeting on development in J&K, where he reaffirmed the Centre’s unwavering resolve towards building a developed J&K. He said the PM’s efforts are ushering in a new era of prosperity for every citizen through development and welfare initiatives.
During the meeting, J&K’s achievements in the fields of power, connectivity, industry, tourism and agriculture were presented to the home minister, who called for further accelerating the pace of development so that the full potential of the UT can be realised.
LG Sinha, CM Omar Abdullah, Union home secretary and senior officials of central and J&K govts were present at the meeting.
The home minister also reviewed the preparedness for Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled from July 3 to Aug 9 this year, and directed the agencies concerned to take all necessary measures for conducting the yatra peacefully.
During the day, Shah also tweeted that three more organisations — Jammu Kashmir Islamic Political Party, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Democratic League and Kashmir Freedom Front — have disassociated themselves from the Hurriyat Conference. “It is a prominent demonstration of the people’s trust in the Constitution of India within the Valley,” he said, adding that so far, 11 such organisations have shunned separatism.
