Bengaluru: Union steel minister HD Kumaraswamy on Monday approached the Karnataka high court challenging the notice issued to him by the tahsildar of Ramanagar taluk pertaining to alleged encroachment of about 6 acres of land near his farm at Kethaganahalli in Bidadi hobli.
Justice NS Sanjay Gowda, after hearing the arguments from both the sides, directed the govt not to take any coercive step till Thursday.
In his petition, Kumaraswamy stated that the notice dated March 18, 2027 is not maintainable under law. According to him, the notice purportedly issued under section 104 of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act is without jurisdiction.
Citing several properties, including the ones gifted to him by his mother-in-law Savithramma, Kumaraswamy said he’s in lawful possession of them and has necessary documents to prove that. He claimed that he had purchased the properties during 1985-97.
“On March 15, 2025, govt officials conducted a survey. They orally stated during a contempt proceeding that the survey was done in terms of the direction issued by the high court. The direction of the high court was challenged before the Supreme Court on March 22, 2025. The authorities have not given any opportunity with regard to the reports prepared in respect of three properties mentioned in the impugned notice,” Kumaraswamy claimed, while seeking the high court’s intervention.
