In a collaborative effort to promote environmental sustainability and cleanliness, 3 day Awareness Programm at Pacific Mall , followed by a large-scale Revive Canal ,Revive Doon- Canal Cleanup Drive was successfully organized by The Times of India, Pacific Mall Dehradun, Been There Doon That, and the Irrigation Department. The event saw enthusiastic participation from NCC cadets, students from Tulas Institute, and dedicated volunteers from Been There Doon That.
Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, Secretary of the Irrigation Department, graced the event as the chief guest. He felicitated all the participants and organizations involved, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to the cause.
The event, which took place along the Maldevta Canal at Maldevta Dehradun aimed to raise awareness about the importance of keeping water bodies clean and preserving the natural environment for future generations. The volunteers worked together, picking up trash and debris from the canal, ensuring that the area remains pristine for both the local community and wildlife.
Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar participated in the Clean up drive and at the last he shared his thoughts on the occasion, stating, “This cleanup drive is a testament to what can be achieved when communities come together to work towards a common goal. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the organizations, students, and volunteers who have shown their commitment to protecting our environment. Our water bodies are vital to our ecosystem, and every small step taken today is a step toward preserving them for future generations.”
He further added, “The Irrigation Department is dedicated to the cause of maintaining clean water channels and will continue to collaborate with initiatives like this one. It is essential that we continue to raise awareness and encourage people to take responsibility for their surroundings. Together, we can make a lasting impact.”
The cleanup drive not only removed significant amounts of waste from the canal but also highlighted the role of community participation in environmental conservation. Volunteers worked hand-in-hand, demonstrating the power of collective action in addressing local environmental challenges.
